The largest Korean smartphone manufacturer is now upgrading the Samsung Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7 with the latest TouchWiz firmware based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. This new update, however, comes to only a select number of models of A5 and A7 including the A500FU and A700FD with new firmware build numbers A500FUXXU1CPG2 and A700FDXXU1CPG1 respectively. Moreover, just like other Marshmallow firmware that Samsung released for other phones, these updates also bring all the Marshmallow goodies like granular app permissions, Doze mode,  DND, as well as a newer security patch level from AOSP source and bug fixes. The Samsung A5 device with model number SM-A500FU has received the Marshmallow firmware update and is rolling out in the regions of Europe with Italy, Spain, Croatia, the United Kingdom (Vodafone), Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, etc. being the first and Vodafone being the major provider. Some reported received similar OTA South Africa also. On the other hand, the Galaxy A7 with model number SM-A700FD is now being updated with Android 6.0.1 TouchWiz in the Asian countries like India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, as well as some regions of Russia and UAE.

How to install Galaxy A5 & A7 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware update via Odin?

The detailed tutorial is listed below. Here is a short tutorial on how to use Odin to flash the above firmware:

  • Download firmware
  • Extract/unzip the firmware update file
  • Download Odin v3.11.1+
  • Extract the Odin zip file
  • Run Odin v3.11.1 as administrator
  • Reboot the Galaxy device to Download Mode (hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons when device is turned off)
  • Connect the device via USB and wait until you see a blue sign in Odin
  • Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
  • Do not tick re-partition (uncheck re-partition)
  • Hit start and wait for a few minutes
