Sprint started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update today for its HTC One M9 device. The update brings Marshmallow firmware upgrade along with several other stability improvements and bug fixes. According to the HTC portal, this is a new maintenance release update and should include security patch from December and January. The update comes in the form of an RUU file with .exe extension and weighs over 2 GB. It incorporates some new features from HTC Sense 7.0 as well as the latest AOSP source code.

The software upgrade comes with the build version 3.41.651.4 which is a newer version. It is an upgrade over the old build number 2.11.651.180 which does not contain the Marshmallow update. Hit the download section below for the RUU file. Before you proceed, please confirm the currently loaded firmware version on your device. If it is the same version, there is no need to reload the software. To check the firmware version, navigate to the Home screen then tap All apps > Settings > About and locate the Software version. If your Software number is less than 6.20.651.3, you should proceed with the upgrade.

To upgrade, you can flash the firmware using 3 methods. The one listed below is a full firmware and comes in the form of an official RUU firmware file with .exe extension. Hence, you will need to backup everything before flashing it. The RUU file procedure will perform a clean install. During the upgrade process, the device will reboot multiple times and show software upgrade screens. Visit the installation page for the HTC One M9 device from below for the full tutorial.

What’s New?

The software upgrade available for your HTC One provides the following key enhancements:

-System update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow
-App permissions: lets you define what you want to share and turn permission off anytime.
-Now on Tap: gives you access to additional information whilst on your active screen.
-Smarter power management: Doze, a battery optimization feature.
-Android Security update: improving device on board security.

  • I did the upgrade to version 3.41.651.4 on Feb 21st, and now when I USB connect my M9 to my Mac laptop, the laptop doesn’t see the phone. Even tho I’ve selected “Connected As A Media Device – Transfer Media Files to Computer” That selection is grayed out. But “Use USB For File Transfers” is hi-lighted. Until I did this upgrade, the connection worked beautifully every time I connected via USB cable. The phone popped up as a drive on my laptop screen. I hate when things mysteriously just “change” for no reason. What’e the deal here, somebody? Thanks!

    • Hi Andy, try enabling -USB Debugging, Stay Awake and Allow mock location from “Developer Options” in Settings. Also look for more relevant options in it. For developer options tap “Build Number” in About Phone several times. Also, are you using HTC Sync? http://www.htc.com/mea-en/support/htc-one-m9/howto/601733.html
