As expected, the December 2016 Android 7.1.1 Nougat security patch updates have been released officially by Google under its AOSP community project. This new security update brings the official Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the Nexus devices including Nexus 6P, 5X, Player, the Nexus 9 (LTE & WiFi) and also for the beloved Google Pixel (Xl) & Pixel C. This means the Android v7.1.1 developer preview 2 (with build NPF25F) is out of beta program and the official one hits the Google phones. However, not all devices have received the version 7.1.1 at this moment. Nexus 6 is still running Android 7.0 Nougat. There’s also good news for Nexus 6 users as Google has promised the official v7.1.1 for the same.

The Nexus 6P, 5X, 9(LTE & WiFi), Player, Pixel C now run on firmware build number NMF26H/J. On the contrary, Google Pixel, XL run on build number NMF26O. Nexus 6 however, received 2 December security updates with software version NBD91S & NBD91U based off Android 7.0.

You can claim the OTA update using the system updates option in the settings app. However, rooted and TWRP recovery installed devices may not be able to install the update easily. Hence, you can download the OTA zip files and install it manually.

You may also like Google pixel apps and feature port like Google Assistant, Pixel Launcher, Google Pixel icons and much more. As an alternate measure, you can also install an official CyanogenMod 14.1 or unofficial CyanogenMod 14 & Nougat based AOSP ROMS on your Android device.
