Pixel Camera 9.2 features

Google is set to revolutionize smartphone photography once again with the release of the Pixel Camera 9.2 update, bringing a host of innovative features to Pixel devices. Let’s dive into the exciting additions that promise to elevate your photography and videography experience.

Video Boost

Video Boost feature in Pixel Camera takes your videos to new heights. Harnessing the capabilities of computational photography models, Video Boost adjusts color, lighting, stabilization, and graininess seamlessly in the cloud.

Not just that, Video Boost introduces Night Sight video on Pixel 8 Pro, utilizing AI to reduce noise in videos captured under low-light conditions. Say goodbye to dark, murky footage and hello to rich detail and vibrant colors, even after the sun sets.

Night Sight in Time Lapse (Exclusive to Pixel 8 and 8 Pro)

The Pixel Camera update introduces Night Sight in Time Lapse, an exclusive feature for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users. Now, you can capture captivating Time Lapse videos in low-light conditions with impressive results. With options for both 1080p and 4K recording, users can create stunning 10-second videos from 5-minute and 20-minute recordings, respectively.

Customizable Palm Timer

Building on the previously introduced Palm Timer, users can now customize its behavior. Choose between “Always on” or activation only when the timer is in use, providing a tailored experience based on individual preferences.

Ultra HDR Photo Switch

For photography enthusiasts seeking ultimate control, the Pixel Camera update includes a separate switch for Ultra HDR photos in advanced settings. Fine-tune your HDR experience and capture scenes with enhanced dynamic range.

Video Boost with Night Sight Video Mode

Enhance your low-light videography with Video Boost in Night Sight Video Mode, ensuring your videos are vivid and detailed even in challenging lighting conditions.

Photo Unblur

Photographing your furry companions just got easier with the upgraded Photo Unblur feature. Now optimized to sharpen images of dogs and cats, even if they’re constantly on the move. And it doesn’t stop there – Photo Unblur remains your go-to tool for effortlessly refining faces and backgrounds, ensuring every photo is picture-perfect with just a tap.

Where to find Video Boost Feature on Pixel Camera?

Once the feature becomes available, navigate to the quick settings of the video mode on your Pixel 8 Pro.

When you start recording, the Pixel Camera cleverly generates two files: VB-01 COVER and VB-02 MAIN. The VB-01 COVER file provides an immediate preview, giving you a glimpse of what’s to come. Meanwhile, the VB-02 MAIN file is sent to Google’s servers for enhancement through the Google Photos cloud.

After a processing period, you’ll receive a notification from Google Photos, signaling that the Video Boost is complete and ready for viewing. At this point, the raw VB-02 MAIN file is automatically deleted, making room for the enhanced version, VB-03 MAIN, which is seamlessly downloaded to your phone.

It’s worth noting that the raw VB-02 MAIN file can occupy substantial storage space. For instance, an 11-second video may take up 350 MB, while the VB-01 COVER file consumes only 30 MB. However, after enhancement, the VB-03 MAIN video will weigh approximately the same as the initial preview file.

The Video Boost feature sets a maximum length of 10 minutes for video files, ensuring you can capture extended moments with enhanced clarity.

In Google Photos, a convenient preview allows you to effortlessly switch between normal and boosted videos. Boosted videos are easily identifiable with a special icon, marking the enhanced versions for a seamless viewing experience.

Remember, the rollout of this incredible feature is gradual, so don’t fret if it’s not available immediately.
