HTC One M8 is one of the oldest and most popular phones from the major Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer. It quite remarkable to see how custom ROMs are getting efficient and spreading their reach to different devices. With Android 8.1 Oreo taking the forefront of the Android OS has led the custom ROM developers to work on the latest AOSP sources. This brings us to the latest addition of Lineage OS 15.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo for the HTC One M8.

Lately, we have being posting about several LineageOS 15.1 ROM for various Android phones. And now adding to that list, is the HTC One M8. This development was carried out by the developer bgcngm. Note that this Lineage OS 15.1 ROM build  an unofficial one. So you may find some bugs and minor stability issues here and there.

Even though it is an unofficially build, there are lots of other working features as well. The developers are working on the bugs fixing. Also, since the ROM is a custom one, you will have to flash it via latest TWRP recovery.

What’s working with Lineage OS 15.1 for HTC One M8?

The working features in this ROM includes,

  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth
  • NFC
  • Camera (Footej Camera is required for video recording)
  • FM Radio
  • Telephony (Calls, MMS/SMS and Mobile data)
  • Audio (Record and Playback)
  • Video Playback
  • Sensors
  • GPS

Features that are not working:

With the Lineage OS 15.1, the Bluetooth and camera video recording features have been fixed. So now there is only one issue left. You will need to use you will need to use the Footej Camera for video recording. It will be fixed in upcoming updates. So stay tuned.

Note:-

  • Your device’s bootloader needs to be unlocked before performing the update. In case of HTC it is S-OFF.

  • Take a full Nandroid backup from TWRP.
  • Keep Your device at full battery charge.
  • Keep it in mind that with rooting the warranty of Your device will be removed.

How To update HTC One M8 to LineageOS 15.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo?

So, here are the steps for installation.

Note: Make sure your device has the latest TWRP recovery installed. Before that, make sure the M8 has Bootloader Unlocked (or S-Off) and also make sure it is rooted.

Step 1: First download the custom ROM LineageOS 15.1 for HTC OneM8, GApps for 8.1 Oreo, and any rooting package listed in the downloads section.

Step 2: Now, transfer all the downloaded files from PC to your Android device.

Step 3: Install the latest TWRP on your device and then reboot into TWRP recovery mode. Take a full Nandroid backup before you proceed.

Step 4: Perform a full wipe i.e wiping out the  Cache, Dalvik cache etc.

Step 5:  Now flash the LineageOS zip package followed by Gapps, and Magisk/SuperSU.

Step 6: Final step is to reboot to the system.
