Nothing OS 2.5 for Android 14 for Phone 2

The Nothing Phone 2 is finally receiving the latest Android 14 based Nothing OS 2.5.3 firmware update with the latest April 2024 security patches. The reason NOS 2.5.3 is so popular is because it brings the new AI features from the newly launched Phone 2a and the new Recorder widget with discreet call recording.

Phone 2a comes with AI features like the new AI Wallpaper generator. It has the new Recorder widget with discreet call recording as well. This allows you to record calls without announcing to the other party they are being recorded. This was the most asked feature by the Nothing community.

Carl Pei confirmed it in one of his Tweets. This feature will be rolling out to all Nothing devices across the globe. However, it goes without saying that restrictions may be made in some countries, like the United States, where two party consent is required for call recording in some regions.

However, the feature is not mentioned in the changelog for Nothing Phone 2, as it did on the Nothing OS 2.5.3 for the Phone 1.

So the discreet call recording may have been dropped from NOS 2.5.3 for Phone 2; due to some legal restrictions in some regions like the United States in some states. You will need to try it yourself. Press and hold the home screen for a few seconds. Select widgets and scroll down to find call recording.

The update also fixed an issue with car Bluetooth media players. Optimised animations in certain scenarios for smoother transitions. Updated Android Security patch version to April 2024.
