Latest month’s firmware rollout kickstarts in Samsungs’s camp. The December 2017 security patch for Galaxy Note 8 is now seeding across Europe. It moves the firmware build number to N950FXXU2BQKG. It brings improved security for Wi-Fi function, debugs the Dex error and updates a few system apps. The update for Note 8 weighs a massive 820.84 MB in size. As of now, it is moving over-the-air(OTA) and will hopefully knock into other devices around the globe soon.

Along with that, Galaxy S6/Edge is also receiving the December firmware. It is rolling in most of the Asian regions with build G920IDVS3FQL5 and G925IDVS3FQL5 respectively. 

Apart from the regular OTA, you can also grab the firmware from Samsung’s server for all of the above upgrades.  We have explained the details on that below. Also, as of recent the first Oreo update for Galaxy Note 8 got revealed. We are hoping soon there might be a further rollout of Android O for it.

Download  December 2017 Security Patch for Galaxy Note 8 /S6(Edge)

Your device will automatically capture and install the OTA. But you can manually install the update too.

Go to device Settings > About device > System update. Tap on check for updates. If the update is rolling then download and install it. Since it’s a big one, better connect to a Wi-Fi network to install the update.

The December 2017 security patch for Galaxy Note 8/S6(Edge) can be installed from Samsung servers directly.
You have to use SamFirm tool to download and Odin Tool to install the latest firmware.
