Google just concluded the Android Show and the Google I/O 26, showcasing the future of Android with Gemini Intelligence and new features.

Gemini Intelligence is a big part of Android that’s coming to flagship phones in the near future. Android 17 beta is the best way to experience it early. Hereis what Gemini Intelligence has to offer.

Google has rolled out Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 (build CP31.260508.005.A1 for Pixel 6/Pro/a and Pixel 7/Pro; CP31.260508.005 for all other eligible devices). This is a Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) beta, meaning it sits on top of the main Android 17 release and delivers targeted stability and quality improvements ahead of a public stable rollout.

QPR betas are important for developers and users alike. They close the gap between major OS releases and provide a more polished, reliable experience without waiting for Android 18.

What’s new in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3?

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 is a substantive update that tackles real, user-reported pain points — from audio distortion to widget reliability and Wi-Fi stability. For anyone already in the beta program, this is a worthwhile update. For those on the stable channel considering enrollment, it signals that Android 17 QPR1 is maturing quickly toward a polished public release.

Major Bugs Fixed in This Release

Beta 3 targets several high-impact issues that users and developers had flagged. Here’s a detailed look:

Audio Crackling and Distortion — Finally Addressed

Perhaps the most widely reported issue, crackling or distorted audio during media playback has been fixed. This problem affected playback from any source and was logged under no fewer than eight separate issue reports, highlighting just how widespread and frustrating it was for users.

  • Affected issue IDs: #482749744, #471865281, #485701794, #489062503, #494050912, #494901502, #493915745, #458363923

This is a significant fix for anyone who uses their Pixel as a primary media device.

Airplane Mode Data Icon Bug

A quirky but annoying UI issue where the mobile data icon stayed visible in Quick Settings even after Airplane Mode was enabled has been resolved. Two separate issue reports (#501368569, #505757076) confirmed this was a reproducible bug affecting multiple users.

Home Screen Widgets Disappearing After Reboot

One of the more disruptive bugs — home screen widgets vanishing or becoming unavailable in the widget picker after a device reboot — has been patched. This was tracked across six different issue reports, suggesting it impacted a broad range of device configurations and widget types.

Wi-Fi Unexpectedly Disconnecting

Despite having a strong signal, some users experienced Wi-Fi disconnections caused by erroneous low-quality detection. Beta 3 corrects the false-positive logic that was unnecessarily kicking users off their networks.

Full-Screen Mode UI Clipping

Apps expanded to full-screen mode were suffering from UI elements being partially cut off or pushed off-screen. This display rendering bug, reported under two issue IDs, would have been particularly noticeable in media or gaming apps.

“At a Glance” Date Accidentally Opening Terminal

A strange one — clicking the date in the At a Glance widget was incorrectly prompting the system to open the terminal (Issue #506101970). While niche, this is the kind of unexpected behavior that erodes trust in beta stability.

ContextHubClientManager Log Spam

A recurring system error in ContextHubClientManager was flooding logcat with excessive noise when attempting to send messages to unregistered clients. While invisible to most end users, this was a pain point for developers monitoring device logs.

Eligible Devices

Android 17 QPR1 Beta 3 is available for a wide range of Pixel devices via OTA:

  • Pixel 6 series: Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a
