The unlocked variants of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are now receiving the latest July 2017 security patch level from AOSP. The latest firmware upgrade comes to all the unlocked variants of the S8 Snapdragon processor variants. The OTA update packs a new build number (or baseband version) G950USQU1AQGA and G955USQU1AQGA for both Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950U and S8 Plus SM-G955U respectively.
What are unlocked phones?
In certain countries or regions like the United States, Canada, Australia, Korea, and some European countries, Android smartphones are bound by telecom companies like T-Mobile, Verizon, At&T, Sprint, Rogers, Bell, and much more. The phones in contract with these telecom companies are usually bound to use their carrier networks until their contract ends. A user can end the subscription anytime paying a small amount of fee. This is when a phone becomes unlocked; which means, the Android phone isn’t bound to a single carrier anymore.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus unlock variants usually come with Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Whereas, the international or global SM-G950F/FD and SM-G955F/FD variants for the same come with Samsung’s very own Exynos processor. Samsung has released the full software update for all these unlocked variants.
Do not confuse it with bootloader unlock. Bootloader unlock and carrier unlock are both totally different things.

How to install S8+ full stock firmware file using Odin tool?
You can flash the T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon S8 variants with the unlocked software as well. The only difference you will notice is that some of the stock features or apps dedicated to the carrier will be removed. Features like WiFi calling may not work or be absent. To solve this you can flash the official stock firmware dedicated to your carrier from above.
Following is a brief tutorial. For a detailed tutorial on how to use Odin, see here.
Step 2: Download and extract Odin (Samsung’s Flash Tool) to your computer.
Step 3: Download and extract the Samsung Firmware tool.
Step 4: Run the SamFirm tool and input the model number and region or CSC code it belongs to.
Step 5: Download the stock firmware zip for S8 and extract it to your PC to get the file with .TAR extension.
Step 6: Install and run Odin tool as administrator.
Step 7: Add the firmware file to AP/PDA section.
Step 8: Hit start button.
The installation will begin. The first boot may take some time. If it does not, then factory reset from stock recovery or flash the unlocked software.
