safely install Nexus 6 March 2017 security patch N6F26U with Android 7.1.1

Nexus 6 users have been complaining about the issue with the March 2017 N6F26U security patch update based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. For some Nexus 6 users, the update broke Android Pay and also faced some issues with the SafteyNet. Some also reported that the Nexus 6 factory image bricked their phone. Google pulled the OTA zip files earlier today and is now back with the same build number with only SafetyNet disabled.ย The March 2017 security patch updates for the Google Nexus and Pixel (XL/C) phones are now live on the Google developer portals with OTA zips and factory images.

Safety Net is an API that allows applications to check if your device hasย an unlocked bootloader or not. In terms of Custom ROMs, the update wonโ€™t get installed. If SafetyNet check fails, all apps will eventually fail along with the Android Pay. Thatโ€™s what happened with the earlier OTA updates. The new OTA and factory images wonโ€™t break your Nexus 6 device anymore.

Moreover, Nexus 6 March 2017 security update for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with buildย MOB31T and Android 7.0.0 with build numberย NBD92E are now live. The AT&T variant of Nexus 6 now runs on Android 7.0.0 Nougat NBD92D firmware.
