How to Install Open Beta 9 for OnePlus 3 via TWRP and stock recovery [Download OTA and full ROM]

Another update for the OnePlus 3 Android 7.0 Nougat is now live with the Open Beta 9 firmware. This build brings some critical bug fixes and performance enhancements, thus making the firmware more stable. The Open Beta 9 also incorporates the latest December 1, 2016, security patches. Some of the most sought after updates were the UI & DPI optimization and also Battery performance. The Beta 9 is still based on the Android v7.0 and not the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat that Samsung has already been working on.

The Open Beta 8 brought Oxygen OS 4.0 and was much appreciated by most of the OnePlus 3 users or its stability even though it was a Beta version. Strangely, the Beta 9 removed the Oxygen OS 4.0 brand that existed in the version 8.

Moreover, the Nougat OB 9 for the device isn’t compatible with the official TWRP recovery. Hence, you will need the stock OnePlus recovery for the upgrade to work. The official TWRP will throw an update failed error or recovery bootloop. However, there is a workaround to install/dirty flash the open Beta 9 over the Open Beta 8 via TWRP recovery.

If you are looking for a stable OS for OnePlus 3 then Oxygen OS 3.2.8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is the best option for you. You may also like to see OnePlus 3T Oxygen OS 3.5.3 update.

How to Install Open Beta 9 Nougat on OnePlus 3 via TWRP or stock recovery?

There are basically 2 methods to install the ROM. Both for rooted users with TWRP installed as well as non-rooted users with stock recovery. The methods are listed below and will direct you to the exact tutorial.

Stock recovery method: Update OnePlus 3 to Android 7.0 Nougat Open Beta 9 via stock recovery

Note: A simple method to get OTA notification on your OnePlus 3, if you haven’t already, for the Open Beta 9 is to use a VPN like Opera VPN and change the device location to US/Canada. Then go to Settings>System Updates> and scan. You will get a new update notification. Download and install.

You can use this method if you are coming from the official Oxygen OS 3.2.8 or the Open Beta 8 and on stock recovery, then download the OTA update and install it via stock recovery or ADB sideload method. For a full tutorial, check out the instructions from here.
