Nokia 4.2 gets Android 11

Looks like Nokia is on an update spree again. Most of the Nokia phones have already been updated to Android 10. It is not time to move onto the most sought after Android 11 firmware update. Yesterday, we reported several Nokia smartphones receiving Android 11 including Nokia 8.1, Nokia 2.3, and the Nokia 3.2. Here is the same for Nokia 4.2.

Nokia 4.2 is the latest device to receive Android 11 starting today. It brings software build number V3.150 featuring newer March 2021 security patch level. The full OTA weighs about 1.53 GB in size.

As for the changelog, you get all the Android 11 goodies including advanced privacy and location controls for smartphones. This includes one-time permissions for apps that use mic, camera or location. Easily manage conversations by getting all your messages in one place.

In addition to this, now your device is eligible for Google update directly via Play Store. These are some security patches released by Google that do not need OEM intervention.

My daughter’s Nokia 4.2 was updated to Android 11 and we can’t find any of her photos or videos anymore, and several apps (e.g., Instagram, OneDrive) crash and won’t launch. She has restarted repeatedly but it’s not fixing it.

      Hi Joe,
Maybe try updating all the app from Play Store. Many of the apps supported by Android 10 crash on Android 11. So that should help.
Also, Android 11 changed the way permissions work. Are you sure you have given the apps trying to access photos and files are given storage permissions?

You can also raise a ticket in the Nokia community. They should be able to help you out with the changes they made. https://community.phones.nokia.com/categories/nokia-4-2
