Oxygen OS 3.6.1 for OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2 is a lucky device to receive yet another OTA update with Oxygen OS 3.6.1. The new OTA update features the latest October 2017 security patch level. The October OTA is only available for OnePlus 3/3T for Android 8.0 Oreo firmware update released under the Open Beta program. Even the the OnePlus 5 is on the September patch with Oxygen OS 4.5.13. Today, Oxygen OS 3.6.1 is rolling out for OnePlus 2 with latest security patch and KRACK WPA2 vulnerability fix.

According to the discoverer of the WPA 2 vulnerability, the exploit can leak user data even on highly encrypted network. A hacker once penetrated into the network can gain access to your usernames and passwords. Even though the network data is encrypted over HTTPS or SSL, the WPA2 exploit leaves the user connection vulnerable to data leak. It is a LAN or WiFi router level exploit. Hence, all the devices in your network including your WiFi, smartphones, gadgets, etc. should be patched with KRACK fix.

OnePlus 2 is still on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and may never receive 7.1 Nougat. However, it continues to receive monthly security updates and critical bug fixes such as Oxygen OS 3.6.1. You will also see improvements to the OOS framework and Android system.

Following is the update log for Oxygen OS 3.6.1:

  • Updated Android security patch level to October 2017
  • Fixed WPA2 security issue
  • General bug fixes and improvements

This confirms KRACK WPA2 vulnerability fix for OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T.
