List of Android devices receiving Google Assistant - Here's how to get it right now

The Google Assistant is the hottest topic in the Android community right now. Similar to Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana, this is a new virtual personal assistant from Google. The officially announced Google’s Assistant services was first introduced with the company’s Pixel (XL) phone. Update: Changing Google Account will enable the Google Assistant immediately.

The Google Assistant is now live for a number of devices from various manufacturers. Recently, the company announced that the Android phones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Nougat will start receiving the Google Assistant update this month. The update is a server side switch, meaning, it all depends on the Google to enable the service for a particular device. However, we dug up into the list of devices which are receiving the new assistant from Google and found a simple solution to enable the same for your device.

Google Assistant is now available in regions like United States, Canada, Australia, European countries like Germany, Italy, France, and much more. Google detects the Android version and location of the device and enables. Users across the globe have started reporting Google Assistant availability like India, Philippines, Korea, Bangladesh, and much more.

The reason why Google is rolling out the assistant feature regionally is because the algorithm is always improving from the feedbacks. Thus, in the end, a large number of users will receive an improved product. Moreover, devices running Android 7.1.1 Nougat are most likely to receive the Google Assistant. It doesn’t matter if the phone’s software is the OEM or a custom ROM. Users have reported the update coming to Lineage OS based on 7.1.1 Nougat. However, if you are already on a custom ROM, then you can easily enable the Google Assistant using this trick.

If you still can’t see any action, try these extra measures. What we need to do is change the location to the United States.

  • Now run a VPN service. Try opera VPN. Change the location to the United States.
  • Go through the above procedure again.
  • You may also enable an additional Mock location from Developer options. Use an app like Fake GPS location to completely switch your device location to the US. Use it in combination with a VPN.

That’s it. If this does not enable the Google Assistant, then it’s most likely linked to your primary Google Account. Try switching it as well.
