Install Official HTC 10 Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update & RUU firmware File [Download OTA & RUU]

HTC has now started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat update. The Taiwanese manufacturer has chosen the current flagship phone HTC 10 for the sweet Nougat release. This is a new beginning for all the other HTC smartphones like HTC A9, M9, and M8 as users may expect the Nougat goodness for themselves soon enough. The OTA update for HTC 10 comes with the build number 2.28.617.8 which is a newer upgrade from the previous build 1.96.617.20 based on Marshmallow. The OTS packs the Android 7.0 Nougat sources, latest November security patch level, and other important system enhancements.

Nougat update for HTC 10 brings key enhancements to the Notification Panel, the Quick Settings menu, and the UI in general. Although the Marshmallow update for HTC 10 seemed very close to the stock AOSP firmware from Google, the Nougat update retains its minimalistic Sense 8.0 theme. The Heads up notifications have been tweaked slightly.

With the new UX, you will see that the App switching experience has been improved as well. According to some HTC 10 Nougat users, the animation speed has been improved making the user experience smooth. Now you can Double tap on the recents options and switch to the last used app and not the original one.

HTC 10 users have been successful in capturing and extracting the OTA and RUU update files/links. This way, users who have rooted, heavily modified the system or have flashed a custom ROM can make use of the full RUU firmware file and restore HTC 10 to full stock.

OTA Method: Update HTC 10 to Android 7.0 Nougat via official OTA zip file

Step 1. Make sure you have installed the base update prior to Nougat which is 1.96.617.20.

Step 2. Download the Nougat OTA file or from the download section and transfer it to your phone’s internal storage.

Step 3. Reboot your HTC 10 into Recovery Mode. To do so, turn off your device completely and then press and hold the power and volume down keys simultaneously for a few seconds. Select Recovery if an option is available.

Step 4. From the stock recovery select Apply Updates from phone’s storage and then navigate to the OTA zip file and select it.

Step 5. Confirm the operation and sit back while the installation proceeds.

Alternatively, If the above procedure fails for you, then you can try the ADB sideload method given below. For this method to work, you need to setup ADB and fastboot environment on your PC, reboot to fastboot mode, connect your device via USB, and enter “adb sideload <filename>.zip” command via terminal or command prompt.

Restore to Stock RUU Firmware: Install Android 7.0 Nougat on HTC 10 via RUU EXE File

This method will help you restore HTC 10 to complete stock from any firmware. It will also update your HTC 10 to Android 7.0 Nougat provided you have the RUU.EXE file. Follow the instruction from the RUU program.

• Download the latest available RUU.exe file from above for your HTC 10 to your PC.
• Connect HTC device to your PC via USB cable.
• If the device is not recognized, reinstall drivers and then disconnect and reconnect the device from the USB cable.
• Now run the HTC 10 RUU.exe file. This will launch the system update wizard.
• Follow all of the system update wizard instructions shown on your PC.
• Once the installation is complete, click Finish.
• The device will reboot.
