This week has been a game changing week for Android enthusiasts all across the globe. With the launch of the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS, Nexus users have been receiving the latest firmware from Google. Meanwhile, many manufacturers like Sony, LG, Samsung, Huawei have been promising the latest Nougat OS to be released soon for some of their premium devices. The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, keeping the promise, has now launched its first global stable MIUI 8 ROM for many of its supported devices. The MIUI 8 ROM is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and comes with many bug fixes, stability improvements, and also with a newer security patch level.

After almost 2 months of wait, since the Beta MIUI 8 ROM for China and global was launched, the official stable MIUI 8 build has now been released. It is available all across the globe and can be installed on the Xiaomi devices listed below. Even though many of you should be able to progressively receive the update over-the-air (OTA) and get the notification directly onto your phone via the Updater app, you may not be able to upgrade if you have rooted, installed TWRP, or flashed a custom ROM. For that, you can download the ROM packages listed below and use the tutorial in this thread to flash it. There are 2 files – one is recovery file which can be flashed directly using the stock recovery and second is a fastboot file can be used to restore Xiaomi device to full stock. The MIUI 8 ROM comes to us officially from the Xiaomi with the global stable v8.0.1.0 for Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm, Redmi Note 3 Special Edition, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S/Prime, Mi 2/2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 5, Mi Note, Mi Max 32GB and more to come Check out the MIUI 8 screenshots and review from the MIUI forums and change log from here.

Devices which will get OTA update on August 23rd are: Redmi 1S, Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 3G, Redmi Note 4G. All users of these devices will be able to receive the update over-the-air today.

Some users will be able to receive the OTA update for Redmi Note 2 and Redmi 2 on August 23rd as well. The update will be open to everyone on August 25th.
