Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Android 11

Samsung Galaxy S9, S9 Plus, and Note 9 phones will never see another Android OS upgrade as they are nearing their end of life support soon. While the devices may continue receiving Android security patches from Samsung for another year, Android 10 based on One UI 2 is the final update. The manufacturer will soon drop monthly OTA update to quarterly. However, the Galaxy Note 9 lives on with custom ROMS like One UI 3.1 ROM port based on Android 11.

Thanks to the brilliant developer community, the Note 9 still lives on with the latest One UI 3.1 ROM port based on Android 11. The Note 10 just recently receive One UI 3.1 firmware update. Every day, I’m leaning closer and closer to actually trying to brick my Note 9 (N960F) – but not until my new A71 shows up. ๐Ÿ™‚ If I can get the Note 9 to work the way I want, i.e., so that my new Honda Insight sees it to run Android Auto, I’ll probably return the A71.

Question: I’m assuming that flashing will take me off the security updates train from Samsung. Is that correct? If not, will I need to do anything special, or will the software automatically make the connection? If so, what does one do about security updates?

Last thing: I’m guessing the reason my N960F doesn’t work properly in my car is because the firmware shows it as an UAE phone, not a US phone. Since the US Note 9 is N960U, I’m guessing that flashing won’t change the model number of the phone. But perhaps it will make it look like it’s from the EU rather than the Arab peninsula?

    Thanks for any response.

    Best regards,
