Sony Xperia 1 Receives Stable Android 11 Update

Sony Xperia 1 is now receiving its first stable Android 11 OTA update after a series of internal beta updates. Last year Sony released its update schedule for Xperia devices, for upgrading their smartphones to Android 11. In December, Sony brought Android 11 to its Xperia 1 II and now the update has made its way to their 2019 flagship devices i.e. the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5. 

Before this, the update was only available in some selected countries like Russia and South East Asia, but now they are pushing their update to more countries like Hungary, Netherland, Kazakhstan, etc. 

According to their users, they have started receiving Android 11 updates in their countries. The update is around 1 GB, and it is being denoted by the build number โ€œ55.2.A.0.630โ€. Moreover, it also comes with the December 2020 Android Security Patch.

How To Update Your Xperia To Android 11

In order to update your Xperia 1 or Xperia 5 device to the latest android 11, Just follow these steps:

  1. Open โ€œSettingsโ€ on your Xperia device.
  2. Scroll down and go to the โ€œSystemโ€ option.
  3. Select โ€œAdvancedโ€.
  4. In the advance option, scroll down and select the โ€œSoftware Updateโ€ option.
  5. Select โ€œSystemโ€. Tap on three dots and click on โ€œRefreshโ€.
  6. You will see the new Android 11 update with the build number 55.2.A.0.630.

New Features in the Update

Sony hasnโ€™t published a proper changelog for this update. But there is a possibility to see all the new features coming to Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 that google rolled out with the Android 11. Android 11 features like chat bubbles, overhauled notifications management, and one-time permissions will also be included in this update. Also, the โ€œAmbient Displayโ€ feature can be seen in this update, making their users a bit happier. Moreover, the animations on the device are also optimized.

According to reports, the โ€œPhotography Pro Featuresโ€ from the Mark II series, which was requested by a lot of users, are not going to be available in this update. 

Additional Information About This Update

Due to the size of this update, it is highly recommended to use a Wi-Fi connection to download the new update. As of now, the new update is only available for dual SIM variants of Xperia 1 and Xperia 5, in selected European countries. 

There is no proper roadmap provided by Sony on their global rollout, so itโ€™s only a possibility if it is going to be available in more countries or not.
