Android 11

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Note 9 series just received Android 10 based on Samsungโ€™s popular One UI 2.5 firmware. Unfortunately, this is the last major update for the two smartphones. While Samsung did change its policy to support its flagship phones from two years to three years of Android OS upgrades, that clause excludes the S9 and Note 9 series. The 3 generations of Android OS upgrades rule applies to the Galaxy S10 series and forward.

So even though the S9 and Note 9 devices are completely capable of running Android 11, they wonโ€™t get it. But thereโ€™s still hope. Like every Android device, there are some developers who still keep the software updated with custom ROMS. The first Lineage OS 18 ROM based on the latest Android 11 is now available for download for the Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note 9.

Thanks to developer Rob (or synt4x93 on Github), here we have the first unofficial builds of the popular Lineage OS 18 ROM based on Android 11 for the Exynos S9 and Note 9 series phones. Most of the functions are working in the first builds with more updates coming in the future. So if you wish to see a more stable Android 11 ROM for your device, do participate in the development and provide the developer with feedback.

Moreover, Lineage OS 18 ROM is only available for the Exynos variants available globally. For Snapdragon variants found in North America, you may not see Android 11 ROMS unless some developer manages to unlock the Bootloader.

In order to download the first Lineage OS 18 on your Galaxy S9 and Note 9, head over to Robโ€™s telegram group and join it. You will get a list of Lineage OS 19 ROMS, stock vendors, Bootloader zips, and more; including installation instructions.
