Moto G5 and G5 Plus latest OTA update

Motorola has already released Android 8.1 Oreo firmware update for the Moto G5 series phones including the Moto G5, G5 Plus, G5S, and G5S Plus across the globe. Following that, the devices soon received many OTA updates with latest security patch level as well. Today, the Moto G5 (Plus) phones are receiving a new OTA update with newer security patch level and some critical bug fixes at system level.  Moreover, the overall security of the phone has been increased and several connectivity options have been optimized.

The latest OTA update for the Moto G5 Plus features a new firmware build number OPS28.85-17-6-2 with improved performance for WiFi and Hotspot. After the update you will see faster WiFi connectivity and speed and reliability on the HotSpot as well; if you have been facing such issues. Alongside, it comes with security enhancements and better support for Android Messages. It is not quite clear as to what security enhancements the manufacturer brings to the Moto G5. This could be the latest security patch. So if you are facing any of these issues, then you must go to settings > system updates > and check for OTA updates.

The OTA update is currently live in the Asian region including countries like India for the Moto G5 (Plus) variant called retin. Other variants like retde, retgb, reteu for European region and and retus variant for USA will soon be updated. So stay tuned. Moreover, the Moto G5 and G5+ are already running the February 2019 patch level. This new update features security, network stability, and third-party app compatibility. How to download Moto G5 and G5 Plus latest OTA update?

As a users you can capture OTA update yourself. Once the OTA update is live for Moto G5 Plus phones you can go through the following steps to capture the latest OTA update from different regions and share the download links.

  • Make sure your Moto G5 (Plus) runs Android 8.1 Oreo
  • Go to Settings app in the apps drawer.
  • Select “System”.
  • Choose “System updates”.
  • If the October update is live in your region, you will see a “download” option.
  • Select “Download”.
  • After the software is downloaded, select “Install”.

Currently, Motorola is working on Android 9.0 Pie for some of its latest devices via soak test – like the Moto G6 and G6 Plus series . So in order to participate, and see if your Moto G device is eligible for Android 9.0 Pie Beta, you can sign up for Motorola Feedback Network (Soak Test).

Meanwhile, you can also download the latest OTA update by simply going to settings > system updates > and check for OTA updates. If available, download and install manually.
