How to Enable RCS Messaging Chat feature in Android Messages

Google is enthusiastic about bringing the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging feature to the Android platform. Recently, Google along with Verizon carrier announced the official rollout of RCS for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL with the latest version of Android messages. Some users have started receiving the โ€œChat Featureโ€ option in the Android Messages app. However, not all users have this Chat feature enabled on their phones despite being on Verizon Pixel 3 devices. Not to worry, because we have a simple trick that will enable RCS on your Android device immediately.

Now, RCS and Chat may sound confusing to some. This is because some carriers and smartphone manufacturers refer to RCS as the โ€˜Chatโ€™ feature. So despite carriers like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile pushing Universal RCS Profile to customers, you may need to search for a feature called โ€œChatโ€ in your favorite messaging app.

Here we will show you how to enable the Chat feature in Android Messages and start using RCS onย  supported phones like the Verizon Pixel 3 and 3 XL. This is a simple trick and you wonโ€™t lose any data in the process. All you need to do is force stop the messaging app and reinstall it, along with a couple of other things. The detailed tutorial is below.

Just doesn’t work on husbands Pixel 2 XL on Three. My phone and daughters phone are same model and network and chat works fine. Even works on OG Pixel XL on Giffgaff. But not my husbands. Our version has a line with status and connected on it. His doesn’t. Without that status line he can’t use the chat features. Have tried all these tricks and nothing has worked. Just totally confused.

It also depend on the network carrier. If the network carrier has enabled RCS feature, then it should work. Also make sure you are using the latest Android Messages version.

Yes. I know all that stuff. It is the basics. How could a Pixel 2XL be on a version of Android below Android 5? Which is the minimum Android version. Just to say, he is on Pie with July 5th 2019 security patch.

In the end we discovered that his carrier services were disabled. Once he enabled them he was able to use chat functions.
