Oxygen OS 12 for OnePlus 7 7 Pro 7T 7T Pro Android 12.1

Update: new Oxygen OS 12.1 MP2 HotFix full OTA update is now available for download for OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro for Indian variants. The Global (USA) and European (EEA) variants will directly receive the new MP2 update.

Original: After an extensive Android 12 Open Beta program for the OnePlus 7 series, OnePlus finally rolled out stable Oxygen OS 12.1 earlier this month. The firmware is only available in India though. Today, OnePlus rolled out yet another Oxygen OS 12.1 incremental OTA update with critical bug fixes and stability improvements.

OnePlus 7 series is now receiving the most anticipated Oxygen OS 12.1 OTA update with updated OnePlus apps and new Android 12 goodies. The firm is all set for a global rollout including North American and European (EEA) variants after todayโ€™s hotfix update.

As for the changelog, the new incremental OTA update mainly fixes known issues and optimizes the system stability.

From the stable Oxygen OS 12.1 update, it is a small incremental update ranging from 74 MB to 111 MB for various OnePlus 7 devices.

So if your device is on the stable update, visit Settings > System updates > and download the OTA update from there.

As for the North American variants, the carriers will release Android 12 in the next couple of days. So stay tuned.

While OnePlus also promised the final Android 13 OS upgrade for OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro, it will take a lot of time and effort before OnePlus actually deploy the stable version. So Android 12 based on OOS 12.1 is your best bet right now.

Oxygen OS 12.1 rolling out for OnePlus 7 Series

Android 12 features a new wallpaper-based theming engine based on the brand-new Material You visuals. This theme engine will automatically apply a systemwide accent with different color pallets based on the wallpaper you have set on the homescreen. It will ask you to choose the accent colors for various elements of the system.

OnePlus has its own implementation of Material You as well integrated into Oxygen OS 12.1. The new user interface is baked into Oxygen OS 12 based on Android 12. Smart Battery Engine is the key highlight of the update as it guarantees prolonged battery life.

A new feature called HyperBoost is an end-to-end frame rate stabilizer. Dark mode now supports three adjustable levels for a more personalized and comfortable user experience.

Canvas AOD brings a personalized lock screen experience with inspiring visuals. It has new diverse styles of lines and colors too.

Unfortunately, OnePlus Shelf is still present and wonโ€™t be replaced by Google Discover. However, you can still get the discover feed using this tutorial: How to Get Google Discover Feed on any Smartphone For Home Screen.

It also brings the stunning OnePlus AOD to the OnePlus 7 series.

According to users, Oxygen OS 12.1 for OnePlus 7 is

  • No sign of lag or any major performance issues issues
  • 90 fps works great
  • Fingerprint and face unlock work just fine

The previous Open Beta 2 improved system stability overall. Optimized the charging speed. Optimized fingerprint unlocking.

The update also fixed the issue where double tap to wake or turn off screen worked abnormally. Fixed the issue that adjusting vibration intensity worked abnormally.

Most importantly, it fixed the issue where the camera app crashed after turning on Ultra Steady mode.

MP and OBT to DP upgrade guideโ€”via Local OTA Update

Note: This upgrade method will erase all the contents of the phone, please be sure to backup first.

  1. Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  2. Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
  3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  4. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  5. Update successful.
