Mi Box Android 9 Pie

Xiaomi successfully rolled out stable Android 9 Pie firmware update for the popular Mi Box 3 device late last year, following the Mi Box S/4K. The Mi Box 3 went through a series of beta programs with a total of 3 OTA updates. Here is the latest OTA update for the Mi Box 3 with firmware build number 3575.

The latest OTA update for Mi Box 3 is based on Android 9 Pie and brings the newer March 2021 security patch level. The Kernel version as also been updated to 4.9.113.

As for the changelog, you will notice a bunch of bug fixes including improved system performance. The update fixed playback issue after the device is woken up from standby mode. Most importantly, it fixed the ghosting issue. Thatโ€™s it for now. There may be some under the hood changes. Checkout the complete changelog from the image below.

The full OTA weighs about 637 MB in size. This about 15 Mb less than the first stable Android 9 Pie update for the Mi Box 3. Head over to โ€œsettings > system updatesโ€ to download the OTA.

Unfortunately, Mi Box 3 will never see Android 10 update. So a new security patch update is a your best bet. Hopefully this fixes all of your device issues as the next update will take a very long time to roll out. The current one almost 8 months to arrive.

When my Mi Box rebooted after the update, video started blanking out. I swapped cables and ports and it was able to display properly. Iโ€™m not sure why it could have been a cable issue. The cable was able to display 4K just fine before the update.
