Xiaomi Mi Box S/4K New Android 9 Beta Update Brings Fix For Playback Issues [OTA5 BETA0]

Mi Box S or 4K Android 9 Pie ota update

Xiaomi’s popular Mi Box S/4K is getting a fifth Android 9 Pie Beta update with fix for issues with video and audio playback. This is to address the video playback freeze randomly or after sleep. This is an annoying issue and the fifth beta fixed it. Note that the update will come to the stable channel after the new beta program with build OTA5 BETA0 is complete. So expect to see more OTA before the stable Android 9 Pie update for the Mi Box S or Mi Box 4K.

Xiaomi rolled out a total of four beta programs based on Android 9 Pie for the Mi Box S fixing several issues. This is a precautionary measure taken so that the new OTA update does not bring new bugs with it which may result in potentially bricking the device. In the previous build OTA4 Beta2, we saw a fix for green tint and USB issues. As for the OTA4 Beta 0, we got support for Bluetooth Gamepads and Xiaomi’s new Peel Mi Remote app; before finally rolling out a stable Android 9 Pie build.

The current OTA5 BETA0 build brings fix for playback issues for both audio and video. According to users, the video or audio would stop working after the Mi Box goes to sleep. Or at times just stops randomly. After this update, you probably should be able to seamlessly stream videos.
