OnePlus 8 Pro X-Ray Vision camera filter removed in Oxygen OS 10.5.9 update

The latest flagship OnePlus, the 8 Pro, launched just last month and is already on sale in some regions including the United States and some countries in Europe. The OnePlus 8 series launched with Android 10 out of the box with latest Oxygen OS 10.5 version and some exclusive features too. However, the one feature that caught everyoneโ€™s attention is the new X-Ray Vision camera filter. Yes, the 4th camera in OnePlus 8 Pro is a color filter camera that can see through certain objects like thin plastic, and even clothes. A little obscure but seemingly clear for certain objects. Well unfortunately, that camera filter is going away with the latest Oxygen OS 10.5.9 OTA update.

Apart from performance, the OnePlus 8 Pro is advertised as a camera phone that comes with top-notch hardware and software specifications; and sure enough it does deliver. The 8 Pro features quad camera setup at the rear with one main camera, a telephoto lens with 3x zoom, Ultrawide lens, and a Color Filter camera. This 4th camera has a color filter called โ€œPhotochromโ€ that can see through certain objects like clothing and plastic. Popularly known as X-Ray vision camera.

In order to access this X-Rav Vision camera filter, first launch the stock OnePlus camera app on your Oneplus 8 Pro. On the top right corner you will see a filter option. Click on it. Choose the last option called Photochrom filter. Point at an object like a remote or TV box, or certain clothing.

OnePlus 8 Proโ€™s Photochrom camera filter is going away in Oxygen OS 10.5.9 update

Unfortunately, this Photochrom camera filter is being removed from the most recent Oxygen OS 10.5.9 OTA update, at least temporarily; or as they say. After discovering this new feature, users and the manufacturer had privacy concerns or even doubt the legality of it. So OnePlus announced that they would be removing this Photochrom camera filter, but only from the Chinese variants running HydrogenOS. The company assured in their forum post about โ€“ update on color filter camera that the X-ray vision camera filter will stay on the global variants of 8 Pro. So they are temporarily disabling it.

Today, users are receiving a new OTA update based on Oxygen OS 10.5.9 on their OnePus 8 Pro specifically disabling the Photochrom filter temporarily. While the update log does state that the update will return in June 2020, we doubt it will make a return. Or we could just get a downgrade version. Thanks to Oxygen Updater for the screenshot.
