Tencent Blade, not the developers of PUBG mobile, discovered a new vulnerability called QualPwn vulnerability that affects all the phones running Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and Snapdragon 845 processors. According to a blog post published by Tencent (in the source below), the QualPwn vulnerability can exploit Qualcomm WLAN and Modem Over The Air. Although the vulnerability has only been found on the latest Qualcomm chips like Snapdragon 835 and 845, it may also affect older chipsets like the Snapdragon 820 and 821 present in OnePlus 3 and 3T respectively.
One of the vulnerabilities allows attackers to compromise the WLAN and Modem over-the-air. The other allows attackers to compromise the Android Kernel from the WLAN chip. The full exploit chain allows attackers to compromise the Android Kernel over-the-air in some circumstance.
So what is the fix for QualPwn vulnerability? August 2019 security patch level! The latest August update released by Google already has the patch for the given vulnerability. So as you see, Oxygen OS 9.0.4 is a very important update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T devices.
