Huawei Watch Android Wear 2.0 OTA now rolling out based on 7.1.1 Nougat [Download and Install]

The Huawei Watch 2 is finally receiving the Android Wear 2.0 OTA update for devices running both – the official AW 1.5 and the AW Developer Preview 2.0. The update brings Android 7.1.1 Nougat to the watch. It also features a newer April 1, 2017, security patch level. Download the latest OTA zip files from below with the latest AOSP version. There are basically two zip files. One is the usual Android Wear 1.5 to the Android Wear 2.0 full update zip. Whereas, the second one is the upgrade from AW 2.0 Developer Preview to the AW 2.0.

We have already seen the Huawei Watch Android Wear 2.0 Developer Preview earlier that brought many new features. Unfortunately, the Android Wear 2.0 Factory Images are not yet available. So the only way to upgrade is manually flashing OTA zips via ADB sideload methods. The remaining smartwatches to receive this update includes Motorola Moto 360, Asus ZenWatch 1, 2, and 3. LG G Watch and Fossil smartwatch are already on the update. How to install Android Wear 2.0 OTA update for Huawei Watch?

This is a manual method to flash OTA updates on any Android Wear called the ADB sideload method. This is a brief tutorial. Check out the detailed instructions from here.

Prerequisites:

1. Verify your device for compatibility. The listed firmware is compatible with Huawei Watch only.

2. Enable USB Debugging on your device from Developer Options in Settings.

3. Easily setup ADB and Fastboot on Windows, Mac OS, Linux or Chrome OS from here. You may also like Universal ADB drivers, Naked ADB drivers.

Installation Instructions:

Step 1: Download OTA zip file from above.

Step 2: Make sure ADB and Fastboot are setup on your PC. Trust the connection by checking “Always allow from this computer” when you plug in the Android device to your PC for the first time.

Step 3: Now keep the device plugged in and open a command prompt or terminal on your PC.

Step 4: Now, navigate to the location where you have placed the OTA file on your PC. Reboot your Android Wear into the stock recovery mode. To do so, issue the following command via cmd or terminal:

adb reboot recovery

Step 5: From stock recovery mode choose the option “apply update from ADB”.

Step 6: While the folder with the ota.zip file is open, flash the OTA by issuing the following command. (Note that you type the exact name with its proper extension.)

adb sideload <filename>.zip

Step 7: Now the OTA will start installing. Type the exact filename without “<>”

Once the installation completes, you can now enjoy your new firmware. Alternatively, while, on Mac OS, you can issue “./adb sideload ota.zip” command or on Linux type “sudo adb sideload ota.zip” to flash the OTA.

Note: To check your connectivity, issue the command “adb devices” before the bootloader command.
