Smart appliances will receive 7 years of software updates, starting as soon as September 2025. Supported devices include Refrigerators with Family Hub/9″ screens, Bespoke AI washers with 7″ screens, various 2024-launched models.

This groundbreaking announcement, made on August 25, 2025, represents a significant shift in how consumers will interact with technology throughout their homes, promising seamless integration across all Samsung devices.

Expansion of One UI to Home Appliances

The expansion of One UI to home appliances marks Samsung’s commitment to delivering a cohesive user experience across its entire product portfolio. By implementing consistent design elements and functionality across mobile devices, televisions, and now smart appliances, Samsung is addressing one of the most significant pain points in modern smart homes: fragmented user interfaces that require users to learn different systems for each device.

“By bringing One UI to smart appliances, we are transforming the way people interact with technology in their homes,” explained Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “This consistency ensures that the experience feels natural and familiar across all our devices.”

Comprehensive Integration Through Three Core Pillars

Samsung’s approach to unifying the smart home experience centers around three fundamental components that work together to create a seamless ecosystem:

Apps & Services Integration

The integration includes popular Samsung services such as Bixby voice assistant, Gallery, and Samsung TV Plus, which are now being made available across various screen types. This cross-platform availability enables users to access their preferred services regardless of whether they’re using their smartphone, television, or refrigerator display. The unified approach ensures that media consumption and device interaction feel natural and intuitive across all touchpoints.

Enhanced Device Connectivity

Samsung’s SmartThings platform serves as the backbone for device connectivity, integrating all home devices into a unified ecosystem. This integration provides easy access to specialized services including Family Care, Pet Care, and Home Care, transforming individual appliances into components of a comprehensive home management system. Users can monitor and control their entire smart home ecosystem from any connected Samsung device.

Common User Interface Elements

Perhaps most importantly, users will encounter familiar interface elements like Now Brief across all their Samsung devices. Now Brief delivers personalized and relevant information at a glance, offering family members curated content including daily weather updates, family schedules, tailored recipes, and home insights such as remaining time on the washing machine. This consistency reduces the learning curve and makes the smart home more accessible to all family members.

Seven Years of Software Support

One of the most impressive aspects of Samsung’s announcement is the commitment to providing software updates for Wi-Fi-enabled home appliances for up to seven years after launch. This unprecedented support timeline, beginning with models launched in 2024, addresses consumer concerns about device longevity and obsolescence that have plagued the smart home industry.

This extended support commitment serves multiple purposes: it ensures product longevity, enables enhanced functionality over time, and maintains robust security throughout the product lifecycle. For consumers, this means their investment in Samsung smart appliances will continue to deliver value and remain secure for years to come.

September 2025: The Update Rollout Begins

Starting in September 2025, eligible 2024 Samsung appliance models will receive comprehensive software updates that demonstrate the practical benefits of the One UI expansion. These updates encompass four key areas of improvement:

Revolutionary Security Enhancements

Samsung’s Knox Matrix security solution, based on private blockchain technology, will be extended to Wi-Fi-enabled refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, EHS systems, and slide-in induction ranges launched in 2024. The Trust Chain feature allows connected appliances to monitor each other’s security status, creating a network of mutual protection.

Screen-equipped models, including Family Hub refrigerators and Bespoke AI washers, will receive advanced protections such as encrypted Credential Sync and Passkey support. These devices will also feature the Knox Security dashboard that allows users to monitor the security status of all connected appliances in real-time.

Intelligent Feature Upgrades

Refrigerators with Family Hub and 9-inch screens will benefit from upgraded AI Vision Inside technology, now capable of recognizing frequently used packaged foods in addition to an expanded database of fresh foods. The enhanced Bixby voice assistant will support Voice ID functionality, enabling personalized experiences on shared devices by recognizing individual user voices. Users can activate Bixby more intuitively by simply double-tapping on the screen.

Expanded Service Availability

Samsung TV Plus service, already available on Family Hub refrigerators, will expand to additional markets including Canada, Brazil, and India. Additionally, washing machines with 7-inch screens will support eight additional Indian local languages, including Bengali, Punjabi, and Gujarati, demonstrating Samsung’s commitment to global accessibility.

Refined User Interface Design

The refreshed One UI design, initially introduced on 2025 appliances, will be brought to 2024 models including refrigerators, washers, ranges, and EHS products. This update offers more intuitive navigation and region-specific settings, ensuring that the user experience is both globally consistent and locally relevant.
