New Google Pixel VIP App lets your contacts bypass Do Not Disturb, view Location, and more (APK Download)
Google Pixel users just received an unexpected app update last weekend for a new feature called “Pixel VIPs.”
The Play Store listing describes Pixel VIPs as a tool to “stay connected to the people who matter most and never miss a moment from them.” The app’s icon resembles Google Contacts but features a distinctive blue heart for the head and circular body design. Play Store screenshots reveal a widget similar to Favorite contacts in Google Contacts. The app includes a Highlights tab that displays your usual Favorites grid, with some contacts marked by the VIP heart icon. A notable feature allows “VIPs to bypass Do Not Disturb, so you never miss a moment.”
Accessing the app through the home screen widget or Contacts opens a full screen feed displaying profile images and contact options for calling, messaging, and WhatsApp. The interface includes several key features:
A card showing upcoming birthdays and last connection details, including your most recent call and message history with each contact. The Location updates section provides a map displaying real-time location data alongside weather and time information. Users can create one-off notes using a card-based interface similar to Google Keep. The “Things to do together” section offers activity suggestions, with the option to add preferences for more personalized recommendations.
Google began developing this feature in 2024 within the Contacts app, initially calling it “besties” before rebranding to “VIPs.” The notes functionality appears particularly useful as a centralized repository, offering an alternative to traditional note-taking in Google Keep.
Pixel VIPs operates as a background service (com.google.android.apps.pixel.relationships) rather than a standalone app. Version 1.0.766545851 has been installed but remains inactive in both Contacts and the widgets picker, suggesting server-side activation is required.
The update appears on Google Pixel devices running Android 15 with the May 2025 patch. However, it’s not visible on Android 16 QPR1 Beta, where the app listing fails to load when accessed directly.
