Google is gearing up to release the Pixel 6 series phones later this year. Although quite unusual of Google, the firm has released a slew of information on the phones weeks ahead of their official release. The names, designs, release dates, and many of the specifications of Google’s upcoming Pixel 6 series were announced today. Here’s a rundown of what they tease.

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Release Date

As we already knew, Google was launching two Pixel series phones this year. There was a bit of confusion on the name or the larger and more costly variant called Pixel 6 “Pro” or the Pixel 6 “XL”. According to official twitter account @madebygoogle, we have confirmed that “Pro” will be the name for the ultra-premium edition.

According to the official Google press release, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will both be releasing this fall; though Google haven’t set a date. However, if history is any guide, the launch will most likely take place in mid-October. We have more information about the new features, tech specs, pricing, and availability from the blogpost, Google Camera 8.3, and Android 12 beta!

Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Specifications

Google also has a Pixel 6 and 6 Pro store listing available to purchase once they are launched.

As for the specifications, Google Pixel 6 series will feature an “industrial design,” with the Pro sporting a “light polished aluminum frame”. The regular Pixel 6 will sport a “matte aluminium finish.” Surprisingly, the non-Pro appears to be available in a wider range of colours, whilst the Pro will only be available in three.

Google is reported to ditch Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPUs in favour of its own in-house chips co-designed with Samsung for this year’s Pixel phones. Google today confirmed that its new custom chip will be named “Google Tensor.”

Google Tensor Chip

The Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) on the Tensor chip can perform HDRNet on every frame of a video at up to 4K at 30 frames per second. By concurrently stacking several images from the primary camera into a single HDR image and collecting information from photos shot by the ultra wide-angle camera, the Tensor chip helps decrease blurriness in photos. The primary camera illuminates the scene and records it.

Pixel 6 Software

Of course, Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will launch with Android 12 out of the box with Material You design. Here are the dark and light mode with dynamic wallpapers.
