As promised, Sony is now rolling out the the latest and most anticipated update of the year 2018 – Android 9.0 Pie. A little late, but the stable Android 9.0 Pie finally arrives for Sony Xperia XZ Premium Dual SIM variant, the Xperia XZ1 Dual, and XZ1 Compact. The OTA update also features a new firmware build number 47.2.A.0.306. Following you will be able to download and update your Sony Xperia XZ (Premium) and XZ1 (Compact) to Android 9.0 Pie.
Currently, the OTA with build 47.2.A.0.306 is live only in the regions of Vietnam. The update has been reported to be available for Xperia XZ Premium dual (G8142) variant, XZ1 Dual (G8342) and XZ1 Compact (G8441) in the same region. As the update is rolling out in phases, the Android 9.0 firmware will be available anytime soon in your region. So stay tuned.
We have already seen Sony’s latest flagship Xperia XZ3 that comes with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box. Moreover, the manufacture is stepping up its update game by releasing Android 9.0 Pie update for the previous flagships Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 compact with new build number 52.0.A.3.27.
Sony’s Android Pie firmware comes with most of the features that we see in the Google Pixel phones. While some features may be device specific, Sony is known for the near stock Android experience. So this is a great deal. The update features all the new Android 9 Pie goodies including:
- New system navigation,
- New settings menu
- Advanced notification options and channels
- Adaptive Battery power prioritization for most commonly used apps or services
- Adaptive Brightness levels
- Predictive Application Actions
- Sony camera upgrade
- Much more.

In order to get the OTA update, you can go to Settings > System Updates > and check for any OTA updates available for download.
If your device hasn’t received the update yet, don’t worry we have got you covered. Following you can directly download the full stock firmware for Xperia XZ or XZ1 variants directly from Sony servers. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Open XperiFirm tool to see a list of available Sony Xperia devices
Step 2: Select the device > Select the region for which you want to download.
Step 3: It will show the latest firmware available for that region.
Step 4: A ‘Firmware Details’ dialog box will show.
Step 5: Click download to get the firmware file
