Gemini for Google TV adds ways to change TV settings, search or edit Photos & more
Google has expanded Gemini’s role in Google TV with a major update unveiled at CES 2026, positioning AI as the core interface for how users discover content, manage settings, and interact with their televisions. The new Gemini-powered experience is designed to make Google TV more interactive, intuitive, and visually engaging across a broader range of devices, including smart TVs and projectors.
The highlight of this upgrade is a visually rich discovery framework that enhances search and informational queries with high-resolution imagery, contextual videos, and real-time data such as sports updates. For more complex questions, Gemini introduces “Deep Dives,” narrated and interactive overviews that break down topics in an accessible, family-friendly way, reinforcing Google TV’s role as both an entertainment hub and an at-home learning platform.
Gemini also brings deeper integration with Google Photos, allowing users to search their personal photo libraries on the big screen using natural language to find specific people, places, or moments. Once surfaced, memories can be transformed directly on the TV using creative tools like Photos Remix, which applies artistic styles, or converted into cinematic, immersive slideshows designed for shared viewing.
Nano Banana and Veo enable users to reimagine existing photos or generate entirely new visual content without leaving the Google TV interface, extending creative expression into the living room.
Another significant enhancement is Gemini’s ability to simplify device controls through conversational commands. Instead of navigating layered settings menus, users can describe issues such as a dim screen or unclear dialogue, and Gemini will automatically adjust picture quality, brightness, or audio levels in real time while content continues to play. This natural-language control reflects Google’s broader strategy to replace the legacy Google Assistant with Gemini, creating a more capable, AI-first experience that unifies phones, smart displays, and televisions under a single conversational interface.
These Gemini for Google TV features are set to roll out first on select TCL TV models, with wider availability planned for other Google TV devices in the following months. As competitors invest heavily in AI-driven home experiences, Google is positioning Gemini as the differentiator that turns the TV into a central household hub for entertainment discovery, everyday information, creative media, and smart control, marking one of the most significant evolutions in TV interaction since the introduction of voice control itself.
