Samsung March 2023 update

Google just released the latest Android Security Bulletin for March 2023 featuring several vulnerability fixes. While the Google Pixel devices are yet to receive the update, Samsung becomes the first OEM to release the latest March 2023 security updates for several Galaxy smartphones along with the latest Google Play system updates from February 2023.

The March 2023 security patch is the first OTA update after Samsung released One UI 5.1 firmware upgrade for Galaxy S22, S21, and S20 series smartphones just last month. One UI 5.1 brings Galaxy S23 features to previous-gen, mid-range A-series, M-series, and Foldable smartphones.

March 2023 Security update features overall stability and security improvements. It also updates several stock Samsung apps including Galaxy Wearable, PENUP, Samsung Internet, Samsung Health, SmartThings, Samsung Members, Calculator, Smart Switch, Voice Recorder.

According to the Samsung March 2023 security bulletin, the update fixed over 60 vulnerabilities.

March 2023 security update is available for Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra with firmware build number CWBE. S908BXXU3CWBE for the S22 Ultra Exynos.

The update is currently rolling out to Exynos and Snapdragon variants in Europe and Asia. The Snapdragon US variants will be updated later, depending on the carriers.

Google Play System Updates

Samsung also released the latest Google Play system updates from February 1, 2023.

If you donโ€™t already know, Google System updates make your Android devices more secure and reliable and give you new and useful features. This can enable features from Google like the Coolawalk for Android Auto, a newer version of Nearby Share, and much more.

The Google Play System updates can be downloaded from Settings > About Phone > and tap on Google Play System update. This will download and install the latest version. If you havenโ€™t updated it in a while, you will need to update it multiple times and start your phone.

How to download OTA updates on Samsung Galaxy phones?

The latest firmware for Samsung phones upto the Galaxy S20 series is One UI 5.1 based on Android 13.

Here is how to download the latest update.

  • Make sure you have connected to a WiFi network on your Galaxy device.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Scroll down and select โ€œSoftware Update.โ€
  • Download OTA updates manually.
