Earlier last year, Google IO 2021 unveiled Android 12 for the Pixel smartphones. OnePlus was the first to announce the Android 12 developer preview for OnePlus 9 series. After the OnePlus 9, today the OnePlus 8 series is receiving stable Oxygen OS 12 update based on Android 12.

OnePlus successfully concluded the Open Beta program for OnePlus 8, 8 Pro, and 8T in the North American and Indian region. After just a couple of beta updates, the manufacturer released the first-ever stable version of Oxygen OS 12 for the devices.

Known issues

  1. The clock displays smaller. You can try to adjust it manually or delete it and add the clock widget again
  2. Phone application may be replaced by Contacts in Dock. You can adjust it manually to move Phone application in the right place

How to install Oxygen OS 12 full stock firmware onto OnePlus 8 series?

Most of the above-listed updates are incremental OTA updates. Meaning, you need to be on the previous Oxygen OS 11 firmware and install the OTA zip via stock recovery or via adb commands.

Alternatively, for full updates, do the following:

MP and OBT to DP upgrade guideโ€”via Local OTA Update

Note: This upgrade method will erase all the contents of the phone, please be sure to backup first.

  1. Download the latest ROM upgrade zip package from the specified server.
  2. Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.
  3. Go to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the corresponding installation package -> Upgrade -> System upgrade completed to 100%.
  4. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  5. Update successful.

Downgrade to Android 11 via rollback package on OnePlus 8 series

How to downgrade?

For users who have already upgraded to this OxygenOS 12 stable firmware, can rollback can download the full firmware from the downgrade section and install via this apk. With it, you can choose to rollback. It will open automatically after being installed, then you just need to click the button on the top right corner, to select the upgrade file as mentioned in step 3 of the instructions above.

  1. Download the suitable rollback package from the links below.
  2. Copy the Rollback package to the phone storage.
  3. Install this apk. Youโ€™ll need it to roll back. Then, open the โ€œMyApplication2โ€ app -> tap LOCAL UPGRADE, then enter the Recent page -> tap the top-left menu icon -> chose your phone model -> find the downgrade package and tap -> then will jump to another page and have an Installation options alert, tap INSTALL NOW -> wait to finish the installation -> tap rebootโ€‹โ€‹
  4. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
  5. Rollback successful.
