Today, a new version of the Google Camera app was released on the Play Store with version 8.4.400.423370569.19. As it is Pixel 6 exclusive, you can only download the latest Gcam 8.4.400 APK for your Android phones externally and not through Play Store.

Google now officially rolled out a new Gcam update on the Play Store with Google Camera build 8.4.400 now supporting older Pixel smartphones including Pixel 5 (XL), Pixel 5a, Pixel 4 (XL), Pixel 4a, and more running Android 12 or above. The update also brings features such as Timer light, option to disable Exposure controls, updated settings menu and shortcut.

According to the Play Store listing, here’s what’s new with Google Camera 8.4:

• Night Sight in Portrait and Camera modes – Get the same Night Sight results in low light without having to switch modes.
• Video stabilization modes – Use Locked for videos of long performances, when you want to look away from the camera. Use Active in heavy moments. Use Cinematic Pan for smooth, panning shots.
• New zoom buttons – Use zoom buttons to quickly zoom in or out. To use the full zoom slider, tap and hold a zoom button or pinch-zoom.

The latest Google Camera update fixed the issue of where the QR code URLs were incorrectly recognized on Android 12. Google Camera would use arbitrary rules to add some random periods to URLs throwing 404 errors when you visit the links or the servers can’t be reached error. Google reacted quickly and has already provided a fix today with Gcam 8.4.400. The latest version of Google Camera doesn’t seem to have the problem anymore.

Google Camera 8.4 comes with a cleaner and lighter UI by hiding most of the options under settings or gear icon on the top right corner. You will notice a gear icon next to the chevron symbol. You will need to pull down the screen from the top in order to see the settings and options panel. The viewfinder now has more real estate.

In addition to this, you get features like Magic Eraser so you can remove strangers and unwanted objects from your photos. You will also find features from the previous Google Camera 8.4 released at launch including Night Sight and Astrophotography mode.
