Samsung Galaxy S20 series latest OTA update features

Samsung successfully rolled out One UI 3.1 firmware update for a number of S-series, mid-range A-series, and budget M-series smartphones. This also includes the popular flagship phones โ€“ Galaxy S20 and the Note 20 series. The OEM is now focused on system stability, bug fixes, and implementing new features from the current flagship Galaxy S21. The Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are now receiving the latest May 2021 security patch update with several features like eSIM and Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) functionality in select regions.

As we reported earlier, the Note 20 (Ultra) received eSIM and Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) support in the United States from network carrier T-Mobile. Some of these features like eSIM and Dual SIM were already available in select regions for the S20 international variants with Exynos processors. You can now import eSIM plans to your device as from now on.

May 2021 Security Patch for Galaxy S20 Series with eSIM and Dual SIM support

The May 2021 security update now features eSIM fro all regions including the Snapdragon (US) variants of the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra from major US carriers like T-Mobile/Sprint. So stay tuned for the next OTA update.

Once you update your device, you should find aย new option to import an eSIM plan from another device. Alternatively, you can find eSIM Card Manager option under โ€œsettingsโ€ > โ€œconnectionsโ€ option.

Additionally, there appears to be a built in feature to transfer physical SIM to eSIM. So if you have a second SIM card laying around, you can now activate it via eSIM service.

Furthermore, according to the source, Portrait shots are taken via telephoto camera now. This feature was supposed to be exclusive to S20 Ultra models; made its way to the Galaxy S20 and S20+ devices.

New features added to the Pro video section. Dual Recording with both cameras is now possible.

Samsung deployed the May 2021 security patch level based on One UI 3.1 (Android 11) in Germany, Europe. It will soon come to other regions.

The OTA in itself weighs 390 MB in size for the international and EU variants. This may vary for the North American variants.

Will this eSIM feature be made available on Verizonโ€™s S20 UW as well? Does the security update come out on May 1?

Any word if the S20 FE will get it? Not a fan of having two slots and only one works.
