OnePlus 9 Pro Color OS 11.2

Not so long ago, OnePlus announced that they will be transitioning from their solid Oxygen OS firmware in favor of OPPOโ€™s Color OS software. While the international variants are still running latest Oxygen OS 11 build, the Chinese variants of OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro gradually transitioning towards Color OS 11.2 eliminating the popular Hydrogen OS in China. ColorOS 11.2 is now available for download for the OnePlus 9 series.

Things took a turn for the worse when one of the founders of OnePlus, Carl Pie, left the company and started his own venture called Nothing. If you donโ€™t already know, OnePlus is a sub brand of OPPO which is a subsidiary of BBK Electronics. Looks like OnePlus is now merging into OPPO gradually.

Oppo and OnePlusโ€™ hardware are quite similar. In fact, several OnePlus phones in the past have the exact same hardware as some of the OPPO phones. The only thing that distinguished them was the software. Oppo primarily run Color OS.

The worst part is, Color OS has many limitations compared to Hydrogen OS; as reported by several users. This may not be good news for everyone who owns a OnePlus smartphone either.

We speculate some of the following to happening:

  1. Color OS comes to international variants, eliminating Oxygen OS
  2. OnePlus launches their next flagship phones with Color OS
  3. OnePlus drops support for Oxygen OS, forcing existing OnePlus users to install Color OS
  4. OnePlus shuts down after all when it turns into OPPO
