T-Mobile brings eSIM and Dual SIM support for Samsung Galaxy Note 20 (Ultra) with latest software update based on One UI 3.1

As we reported earlier, One UI 3.1 firmware update is rolled out for the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series smartphones in 3 major regions including the United States, Europe and Asia. The major US carrier, T-Mobile/Sprint, became the first carrier to roll out One UI 3.1 software update and moving forward with the newer April 2021 security patch level.

T-Mobile just rolled out a new OTA update today for the branded Note 20 Ultra featuring eSIM support and Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) support. Android smartphones are now finally receiving two of the most requested features like eSIM and Dual SIM starting with Samsung smartphones. This holds true for the T-Mobile Note 20 Ultra. We can expect the same for the regular Note 20 and even the Galaxy S20 in the future.

According to the OTA update screen, eSIM and Dual SIM are the key highlights of the update. It’s not clear whether the update is based on the newer April 2021 security patch level or not. Apart from this, the changelog states security fixes, device stability improvements, new and enhanced features.

We were the first to report eSIM support for Galaxy S20 international variant with One UI 3.1. In North America with Snapdragon variants, T-Mobile becomes the first carrier to roll out these features for the Note 20 series; coming soon for the S20 series.

Once you update your device, you will be greeted with screen letting you know of this feature. You can also find eSIM Card Manager option under “settings” > “connections” option.

Additionally, there appears to be a built in feature to transfer physical SIM to eSIM. So if you have a second SIM card laying around, you can now activate it via eSIM service.

As for the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra on AT&T and Verizon variants, you may expect this feature to come very soon. T-Mobile Galaxy S20 will also see the update anytime soon this month. So stay tuned for more news!
