Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+ & S20 Ultra 5G Ultra Mode

Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are last year’s 5G phones that launched with top of the line hardware and software specifications; including the S20 FE 5G smartphone. The phones have already received the latest One UI 3 firmware update based on Android 11. While the updates are great and well liked by the Samsung community, the S20 series is facing some serious network issues like call drops, calls not connecting, and even text messages not going through.

This is especially true for the Snapdragon variants of the Galaxy S20 series sold in the United States. We haven’t seen many cases with the Exynos variants yet.

Users on T-Mobile and Verizon network are seeing issues with call drops happening randomly, and at times calls not landing at all, drop in cellular network, among other things. The call drop issue also happens on third-party apps like Facebook messenger. The voice calls would connect for around 5 to 10 minutes before disconnecting.

According to one T-Mobile community member, the bug extends to disruption of service, random message of no cellular data available, text messages not going through. Other Galaxy S20 5G users with similar setup also acknowledged the same.

GALAXY S20 G5 disruption with txt and calls / not wifi or cell data related and many other issues

I keep having problems with my new Galaxy S20 G5 (5G), disruption of service, random message of no cellular data available, and so on, this is a $1000 phone and itโ€™s not working correctly !!

As per another T-Mobile user, the Galaxy S20 FE on T-Mobile network has several bugs like calls wonโ€™t come through, texts are delayed by hours or donโ€™t send or deliver at all. The bugs are intermittent and completely random.

Got my mother an S20 FE and she has had nothing but problems with it.ย  Calls donโ€™t come through, texts are delayed by hours or donโ€™t send or deliver at all.ย  It is intermittent and completely random.ย  Samsung says it is a T-Mo signal problem. Unacceptable for a 74 year old woman who lives alone to not have a reliable device or service.

ย I had her switch to LTE/3G/2G network mode and weโ€™ll see how that works.ย  Thereโ€™s no reason the service should not work as intended on the 5G/LTE/3G/2G mode.ย  This is a new phone from T-Mo with the latest 5G SIM.ย  Regardless if there is 5G service in the area or not, people should not be having these issues.ย  It needs fixed!

There are many similar cases. You can check them out from the following links:

This may also be linked to the new 5G network. So even though the fix may be on the way, the actual fix could require a collective effort from the manufacturer (Samsung) and the network carriers like T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, etc.

A temporary fix would be to switch to 4G or 3G network on your S20 device until the issue is resolved. Alternatively, you can try updating your phone by forcing your Samsung Galaxy S20 device to download the latest OTA updates and see whether its fixed or not.

3 brand new Galaxy S21 phones on T-Mobile. Facing the exact same issues reported in this article. Switched the phone to use LTE instead of 5G and behavior is a lot better.

Looks like a 5G issue. Guess it will require a collective effort from the carriers and OEM.
