OnePlus 8 Pro 5G DUAL SIM 5G on both slots working with Oxygen OS 11 based on Android 11

If you donโ€™t already know, OnePlus started the developer program for testing their upcoming Android 11 firmware update. While the initial Android 11 builds were pure AOSP based, the manufacturer soon integrated Oxygen OS 11 skin with the beta 3. Oxygen OS 11 brings new changes including new user interface optimized for one hand operations similar to Samsungโ€™s One UI 2.0 and later. This also includes new wallpapers, icons, UX, animations, better dark mode, Android 11 goodies, and some under the hood optimizations.

Now, we all know OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are dual SIM cell phones. However, the Dual SIM functionality is disabled for some regions like the United States. The latest Oxygen OS 11 firmware enables Dual SIM for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro with both 5G capable SIM slots. It has been tested working on the Global variants (found in the United States) with model number IN2025 on T-Mobile SIM cards in both slots. You can also test it using T-Mobile and Verizon and it will work out of the box. While the OnePlus 8 series may not support Verizon 5G bands, it does support 4G.

Thanks to Reddit user u/Mr__X__ for testing the latest Oxygen OS 11 build on the global OnePlus 8 Pro varinat and finding this feature. The user not only claims that it enables Dual SIM functionality, but also enabled 5G on both slots. So you can now insert two 2 5G SIMS or a combination of 5G and 4G and start using Dual SIM functionality.

However, we donโ€™t know whether this is intentional or a bug. If its an accidental feature, then it will be patched in the future updates or in the stable channel for the Global variants (USA). As for the Indian and EU variants, Dual SIM functionality is enabled out of the box. So no worries on that. Moreover, the update is only rolling out for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro right now. So we are not sure whether this will also come to previous generation OnePlus 7 Pro 5G or not.

Here are some screenshots:

As you can see, in the screenshots above, 5G can be enabled in both SIM slots. But itโ€™s still unclear whether you can use 5G on both SIM at the same time.
