Xiaomi Mi Box 3 Android 9 Pie update finally arrives with first pubic beta

Xiaomi Mi Box 3 is one of the most popular Android Boxes in the market. That is until the Mi Box S launched a couple of years ago. The Mi Box 3 is still quite popular and deserve some love from the manufacturer with the latest software updates. Earlier this year, we reported that the Xiaomi may soon start beta testing Mi Box 3 for the newer Android 9 Pie software update. The day has finally arrived with the first Android 9 Pie OTA0 BETA0 update rolling out right now.

Xiaomi just finished beta testing Android 9 Pie for the Mi Box S/4K. The device went through 3 beta programs back to back until finally settling for the stable version just a few months ago. Now, the beta program extends to the previous generation Mi Box 3 as well.

However, at this point we can only speculate what features the first beta for Mi Box 3 brings as Xiaomi did not reveal much in the changelog (see screenshot below). One thing is for sure though that it features Android 9 Pie and all of its goodies. The update log also states that you can now enjoy Mi Remote app. You can expect more such features in the upcoming beta updates; that featured in the Mi Box S Android 9 Pie.

Some of the most important changes featured in Mi Box S Android 9 Pie update include

• Amazon Prime Videos preinstalled
• Reading and writing via USB
• New settings menu interface
• Audio via USB
• Special access for apps, such as overlap
• Amazon Prime video as system app
• New interface when pressing the volume button
• Screenshot while holding on / off button pressed
• Options to manually select audio formats, such as Dolby Digital plus and AAC
• Fixed frontal light automatically on/off after suspend.
• Fixed system language change automatically
• Integrated the latest GTVS.

You can expect the same for the Mi Box 3 as well. However, not all features may be present with the first beta. Stay tuned for more updates!

Download Android 9 Pie OTA update for Mi Box 3

Here we will list the Android 9 Pie beta OTA update zip for the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 once it is captured by users. So if your device is not already into the beta program, you will need to manually install the OTA zip via recovery mode. The OTA comes in a huge package of 620 MB in size.
