Xiaomi Redmi Note 7/7S gets Android 10 based on MIUI 11 globally

Xiaomi has ramped up the MIUI update development cycle. The popular smartphone manufacturer has been pushing global stable updates quite frequently, as of now. A lot of Redmi and Mi phones have already got Android 10 based on either MIUI 12 or MIUI 11 firmware. While the phones which are left and are eligible to get the update should be getting it shortly. Starting today, Xiaomi started rolling out stable Android 10 update for Redmi Note 7 and Note 7S with a new firmware build number MIUI 11.0.1.0 and MIUI 11.0.2.0 respectively; but with a caveat which we will talk about later. Android 10 update for Redmi Note 7 and Note 7S

The update is based on MIUI 11 and not the latest MIUI 12 that is in stage 2 rollout. So you will get the Android 10 update and all of its goodies, but not the latest MIUI 12 firmware. Instead, you will get MIUI 11. Apart from that, Xiaomi has named the latest update as “stable beta” and not a proper stable. So in order to update you may have to manually download the OTA from below and flash via latest TWRP recovery. Or if you are a beta tester, you can easily install it via stock recovery using the instructions below.

Coming to the update users will be getting enhanced Android 10 features like adaptive battery, Minimalist Design, Mi Share, Ambient Display Customization, Ultra Battery Saver, Force Dark Mode, and Improved File Manager. The software version of the new build is V11.0.2.0.QFGxxXM, and it bumps the Android security patch level to June 2020.

How to update Redmi Note 7/7S to Android 10 via MIUI 11?

• After you have downloaded the file. Go to Settings > About phone > System update and click on the MIUI logo 7-8 times to access recovery options.
• Stay on the same screen, click on the three-dot menu on the top right and go to Choose update package. Now, navigate to the downloaded file, select the .zip file and hit OK when prompted.
• The phone will verify the files and will start to update it can take a few minutes. The phone might restart on its own let it finish doing the installation process, after which you can use MIUI 11.
