OnePlus 8 Pro X-Ray Vision camera filter removed in Oxygen OS 10.5.9 update

The latest flagship OnePlus 8 Pro launched a couple of months ago and is already on sale in North America, most on the EU (Europe) and Asian countries like India. The OnePlus 8 series launched with Android 10 out of the box based on latest Oxygen OS 10.5 firmware build and an Android 11 developer preview build ready to flash as well. While the devices come with top-notch hardware and software specifications, there is one accidental feature that caught everyoneโ€™s attention. It is called the X-Ray Vision camera filter. Well, bad news. OnePlus finally pulled the plug on the โ€˜X-Rayโ€™ camera filter in latest Oxygen OS 10.5.10/11 update by readjusting Photochrom filter.

If you are wondering what the โ€˜X-Rayโ€™ vision camera is, then it is a color filter that can see through certain objects like thin plastic, and even clothes. (video below) A little obscure for some but seemingly clear for certain objects. OnePlus 8 Pro has a 4th camera with a color filter sensor. The X-Ray vision of the camera can be enabled via Photochrom camera filter in the sock app. It is now gone!

Note that the IR filter is not going away. OnePlus just decided to adjust the Photochrom filter. Which means that you can still use the Photochrom filter, but can no longer see through objects. Checkout the changelog from Oxygen OS 10.5.10 for OnePlus 8 Pro EU variants. The same comes to the global variant and Indian variant as well.
