Download Xiaomi Poco F1 MIUI 10.3.4 OTA update with Widevine L1, 4K at 60fps video, and Game Turbo Mode

Xiaomi’s Poco F1 has become quite popular since launch and due to the high user demands, the phone has received many OTA updates with new features, bug fixes, and firmware upgrades; on both stable and beta channel. The latest stable MIUI 10.3.4 Global ROM brings many exciting new features to the plate. Pocophone has already received Android 9.0 Pie OTA update on the stable channel based on MIUI 10. It is time for a feature update. The general manager of Poco India posted on Twitter about the latest MIUI 10.3.4 update with following key highlights:

• 4k recording at 60FPS
• Game Turbo Mode
• Widevine L1 support
• Latest security patch

While features like 4k video recording at 60FPS and Game Turbo Mode are self explanatory,  Poco F1 users are most excited about the Widevine L1 support.

So what is Widevine L1 and what does it matter?

The short answer is that your device can now play videos in high definition from various streaming services like Amazon Prime, Hotstar, etc. However, despite Widevine L1 support, Poco F1 still lacks Netflix HD streaming support. But it seems Netflix HD on Xiaomi Poco F1 will soon be available.

As for the long answer, Widevine DRM is a digital rights management component of the Google Chrome web browser and Android MediaDRM. Widevine operates as an encryption scheme to securely distribute video content to consumer devices. So unless Widevine Technologies provide certification, your device lacks the support to play videos in HD from various streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix and more,

However, Widevine isn’t enabled by default. You will have to enroll at least one fingerprint. Once done, go to Settings > Lock screen & password > Manage fingerprints > Fingerprint payments > Widevine (L1) > Click on “Certificate” button to download Widevine certificate.

Installation Instructions:

• Make sure your device is on the latest stable ROM.
• Download the MIUI 10 OTA update zip from above.
• Transfer it to phone storage in the root directory. Meaning, not in any folder. If that doesn’t work, place the file in the folder ‘download_rom’.
• Launch the updater app on your Xioami Poco F1 device. Or go to settings > about phone > system updates.
• Click on three dots on the top right corner and choose the ROM package.
• Select the Android OTA zip you have downloaded. It will decrypt and update your Pocophone.

Note: Don’t stop the update once started. If stopped, you will need to do the operation again right from downloading the firmware file again. This will not erase any data in your phone.
