download Moto G5S and G5S Plus December 2018 OTA update

The Moto G5S and the Moto G5S Plus phones have already received official Android 8.1 Oreo via stable channel. The first Oreo update featured August security patch. Later, the two devices also received October 2018 patch. Most of the Motorola devices are being updated to Android Oreo OTA update including the Moto G5 and G5 Plus. The Moto G5S and G5S Plus, under the stable channel, are now also receiving the December 2018 security patch as well.

The latest OTA update with December security patch features a new build numberย OPSS28.65-36-6; still based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Not much is know about the other changes like battery optimization, RAM managements, third-party app compatibility, and bug fixes. But this update sure looks promising. The OTA is currently live in the regions of Asia โ€“ specifically in India. Other countries will soon start receiving the same.

How to download Moto G5S and G5S Plus December 2018 OTA update?

As a users you can capture OTA update yourself. Once the OTA update is live for Moto G5S Plus phones you can go through the following steps to capture the latest OTA update from different regions and share the download links.

  • Make sure your Moto G5S (Plus) runs Android 8.1 Oreo (August Patch).
  • Go to Settings app in the apps drawer.
  • Select โ€œSystemโ€.
  • Choose โ€œSystem updatesโ€.
  • If the October update is live in your region, you will see a โ€œdownloadโ€ option.
  • Select โ€œDownloadโ€.
  • After the software is downloaded, select โ€œInstallโ€.

Currently, Motorola is working on Android 9.0 Pie for some of its latest devices via soak test. So in order to participate, and update your Moto G to Android 9.0 Pie Beta you will need toย sign up for Motorola Feedback Network (Soak Test).
