How to Update Samsung Galaxy S5 to Android 8.1 Oreo with Lineage OS 15.1 Official Nightly Build?

The 4 year old device Samsung Galaxy S5 and many of its variants are receiving the first ever official builds of Lineage OS 15.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. This includes the USA variants from carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T (or S5 Active), Verizon, Sprint, and many more with model numbers G900AZ/F/M/R4/R7/T/V/W8,S902L featuring the codename klte. This also includes the Galaxy S5 LTE, Galaxy S5 Plus, S5 Active, S5 Duos, etc. So download and see how to install official Lineage OS 15.1 nightly builds onto your Samsung Galaxy devices.

Unfortunately, the international variant Galaxy S5 3G with codename k3gxx haven’t receive the LOS 15.1 ROM update just yet. We will soon see the first Oreo build for the same. How to install Lineage OS 15.1 ROM onto Samsung Galaxy S5?

The LineageOS 15.1 ROM for Samsung Galaxy S5 and all of its variants from can be flashed directly using a custom TWRP recovery. So make sure you already have the latest TWRP recovery installed.

We already have the root method which also include the official TWRP recovery setup guide. So once your device has gained root access, simply wipe the previous stock TwoucWiz ROM and flash the Lineage OS 15.1 ROM zip. See instructions below.

See if your device has the option to Enabled OEM unlocking and Advanced Reboot found under Settings > Developer Options. If not, skip it.
Make sure your Samsung Galaxy S5 device is rooted with latest TWRP recovery.
Download all the proper LineageOS 15.1 ROM from above for your Samsung S5 devices. Also download the Gapps package for Android 8.1 Oreo, and latest Magisk v16.6+.
Transfer all the files including the ROM, Gapps, and Magisk zip to phone storage or SD Card.
Reboot into TWRP recovery. To do so, turn off the phone completely. Press and hold the Home + Power + Volume (Up or down) keys at the same time.
Form TWRP recovery, tap on the backup option and take a full Nandroid backup of all the partitions like system, data, etc.
Now, go to the wipe option and wipe all the partitions except the internal storage. Or do a factory reset. Do not wipe internal storage!
Now, tap on the install option and flash the Lineage OS ROM zip followed by the Gapps, and the latest Magisk 16.4+ zip.
Reboot to system.
