HTC U11 Life Android 8.0 Oreo stock RUU firmware update 2.15.617.2 [Download and Install]

HTC U11 Life is the latest smartphone from the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC. It basically comes in two variants. The first is the OEM by HTC and the other is Android One. Both consists of the same hardware. The only difference is that one comes with HTC Sense UI and the other comes with stock Android experience. Both come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box and possible support for Project treble.

The manufacturer has now published the HTC U11 Life stock RUU for unlocked variant based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The first build comes with firmware version 2.15.617.2 and weighs in at around 1.9 GB in size. The ROM features the newer November 2017 Security Patch. Also, it brings some system enhancements to the device. Though HTC U11 Life will receive Android 8.1 Oreo in the upcoming months, the estimated date is not known.

RUU, short for ROM Update Utility, is basically used to upgrade your device to the latest version. However, it can have several benefits such as restoring the device to stock firmware, unbricking the device, recover the firmware, etc. So if you have rooted, installed TWRP, or made heavily customized, then you can restore your device to complete stock using the RUU file. This will enable you to download OTA updates.

The following downloads consist of both the stock RUU EXE as well as the RUU ZIP. Both the ZIP and EXE have different installation methods. The RUU EXE can be installed directly by running the exe file using on your Windows PC. RUU ZIP can be installed via fastboot or OTA installation method.

Method 1: How to install HTC U11 RUU EXE?

This method can be used to restore HTC U11 Life to complete stock. The procedure should be used with the full stock RUU.exe file officially from the manufacturer. It can take your device to Android 8.0 Nougat from any firmware version. Follow the instruction from the RUU program.

• Download the HTC U11 Life RUU.exe file from above.
• Transfer it to your PC. Or directly download to PC.
• Connect HTC device to your PC via USB cable.
• Reinstall drivers if the device is not recognized. (reconnect the device via different USB ports)
• Run the HTC U11 RUU.exe file. It will take you to the update wizard.
• Follow the system update wizard instructions.
• Once the installation is complete, click Finish.
• The device will reboot.

Method 2: Update HTC U11 to Oreo via Stock Firmware via RUU ZIP OTA method

Here is an alternative method for installing the RUU.zip file.

Step 1: First, download the RUU zip file and transfer it to external SD Card or device storage.

Step 2:  Rename the RUU zip file to “2Q3FIMG.zip”, save it to the root of your external SD card. Meaning outside every folder.

Step 3: Reboot the phone into Download mode. To do so, turn off your device completely. Then press and hold volume down (or volume up) and power buttons simultaneously. Choose the correct option to go to download mode.

Step 4: Once in the download mode, the device will start scanning the SDcard and detect the 2Q3FIMG.zip file.

Step 5: When asked, “Do you want to start update?”. Use your volume Up/Down key to start or cancel the flash.

Step 6: Wait for the process to complete and don’t turn off your phone during the flash.
