Download Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update for Galaxy Note 8 N950USQU2CQL1

Samsung is currently rolling out the Oreo Beta Program for the Galaxy S8 and S8+. We have seen 3 Beta updates till now and one HotFix for the S8 phones. However, now, the Note 8 SM-N950U is also seeing an official Oreo update. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update is currently seeding at AT&T servers. Users have been able to capture the OTA update and make a copy for all of us. It comes with a new firmware build numberย N950USQU2CQL1 for the Note 8 SM-N950U USA Snapdragon variants only.

Usually, AT&T supported devices receive OTA updates and can easily be captured. In the past, we have managed to update many AT&T Samsung devices using this method. Many times users have been able to capture unreleased OTA update for some device. Similarly, the Oreo update is now seeding on AT&T servers for Note 8 Snapdragon variants. It features Android 8.0 Oreo, latest security patch, Samsung Experience 9.0, and much more.

As for the installation, the OTA can be sideloaded using ADB or applied using stock recovery. You can update almost any Snapdragon Note 8 variant with model number SM-N950U including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, or even unlocked. This is just like we did with the Galaxy S8/S8+ Snapdragon variants. So download and install the Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update for Galaxy Note 8.

The above screenshots reveal the new build number, new Android version, new Samsung Experience 9.0, new November 2017 Security Patch, along with new Baseband version.

Before you go ahead start installing the N950USQU2CQL1 Oreo OTA update, you need to remember that this is an OTA update and not the full stock firmware which can be installed via Odin. In order to install it, your device needs to be on the previous Android 7.0 Oreo-basedย N950USQS2BQK2 firmware update. Later you can either sideload the OTA or install via stock recovery method.

How to Install official Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update for Galaxy Note 8?

In order to install the latest Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update, you need to be on theย build 2BQK2. To get your Note 8 to build N950USQS2BQK2, you can make use of the SamFirm tool listed here.

Also, note that if donโ€™t like the Oreo update on your Note 8,ย then you will have to roll back to the previous unlocked Nougat ROM by flashing the full stock firmware.

Prerequisites:

Download Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Oreo OTA update with build N950USQU2CQL1

The Oreo OTA updates have been captured from the AT&T website for the Galaxy Note 8 Snapdragon USA variants.

We are going to download the latest Oreo OTA update from above and flash it via ADB sideload method.

How to install Galaxy Note 8 Oreo OTA update via ADB sideload method?

Step 1: Download the Oreo Beta OTA file from above. Transfer files to PC,ย Mac Book, or Linux machine.

Step 2:ย Make sure ADB and Fastboot is setup on both PC and Galaxy Note 8. Trust the USB connection when you first plug in the Android device to PC.

Step 3: Connect Android phone to PC.ย Now open aย command prompt or terminal window on your PC where the OTA update zip is present. To do so, typeย cmd in the address bar and hit Enter key.

Step 4:ย Reboot your Galaxy S8 device into Recovery mode. To do so, issue the following command through cmd or terminal.

adb reboot recovery

Step 5: Now go to device recovery and select โ€œApply updates from ADBโ€.

Step 6:ย Navigate to the location where you have placed the OTA file on your PC. Itโ€™s time to flash the OTA by issuing the following command. (Note that you type the exact name with its proper extension.)

adb sideload <filename>.zip

Note: Put the exact file name in the <filename> section without โ€œ<>โ€ and proper extension.

Step 7:ย Approve the update and wait till the upgrade completes.

Reboot device to system. Alternatively, while, on Mac OS, you can issue โ€œ./adb sideload <filename>.zipโ€ command or on Linux type โ€œsudoย adb sideload <filename>.zipโ€ to flash the OTA. Check out the complete tutorial from here.
