Download factory images and OTA updates - December 2017 Security Patch.

Update: The July 2018 Android Security Patch is now available for download. The new June or July Security Patch is based on official Android 8.1 Oreo with many new upgrades. Official Android 8.1 stared rolling out with July 2018 Security Patch. We have also seen several Android P Developer Previews for the Google Pixel, Pixel 2 (XL), Pixel (XL) First Gen., and phones from OnePlus, Sony, Xiaomi, Nokia, Vivo, OPPO, Essential. The factory images and OTA update are now available for downloads from Google’s download repositories. So get them now and update to latest 8.1 Oreo firmware.

Apart from the Android 8.1 release, Google also launched the Android Oreo (Go edition). The Go Edition is for low end Android devices which do not have high end specifications. It is targeted towards devices having 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM. It possess a light weight OS and all the lite apps which do not consume a lot of RAM. Google is encouraging developers and smartphone manufacturers to build Android GO ROMS for various devices.

  • A new set of Google apps. The  designs are lighter and more relevant.
  • You will find a new tuned version of the Google Play Store called the Go Play.

How to update Android devices to 8.1 Oreo July 2018 Security Patch?

  1. If your device is running Android P Developer Preview and already enrolled into the Beta program, then all you need to do is sign out of the the Android Beta Program. Once unrolled, you’ll receive an update in the next few hours.
  2. If your device is on stable 8.0 Oreo update and haven’t received OTA notification, then you can download the OTA update and flash it using stock recovery or ADB sideload method. Read: How to install OTA updates?
  3. Alternatively, if you have rooted your device, then you can settle for flashing factory images using the fastboot mode. This is helpful when you have rooted your device and installed a custom TWRP recovery.
