How to root Oxygen OS Android 8.0 Oreo update on OnePlus 3/3T?

OnePlus 3 and 3T recently received Android 8.0 Oreo update with the official Oxygen OS Open Beta 25/16 respectively. The update brings several Android Oreo goodies and features to the stock Oxygen OS firmware. This includes Picture-in-Picture, notification categories, etc. The update looks great and the devices are ready for upgrade. The update also comes with September 2017 security patch level.

Though Oreo is going to be the last Android upgrade for OnePlus 3/3T, the official stable Oxygen OS is yet to come. So we will see many Open Beta builds before the stable once shows up. Hence, this rooting guide will come handy in gaining root access on the upcoming Oxygen OS 8.0 Oreo builds as well including this first one.

How to root OnePlus 3/3T on latest Oreo update based on Oxygen OS Open Beta 25/16?

The latest Android 8.0 Oreo for OnePlus 3 and 3T is here and users have managed to root the firmware update using SuperSU beta build.

Following you will also find how to disable DM-Verity and force Encryption. Use it if something goes wrong or face encryption problems on Oreo. While it is recommended to disable encryption, it is your choice to do so.

Step 1: Make sure your device is running the latest official Oreo build of Open Beta.

Step 2: Make sure the device’s Bootloader is unlocked.

Step 3: Download the latest TWRP for Oreo from below.

Step 4: Flash the TWRP using Fastboot. See instructions here.

Step 5: Download SuperSU 2.82 SR5 and transfer it to phone storage. Also download and transfer the Beta Oreo full firmware package to internal storage.

Step 6: Reboot into TWRP recovery.

Step 7: Take a full Nandroid backup.

Step 8: Flash the SuperSU package.

Step 9: Reboot to system.

How to disable DM-Verity and force Encryption on Android 8.0 Oreo on OnePlus 3/3T?

The force encryption disabler package is now available for Oxygen OS Oreo.

• Download the DM-Verity and forced Encryption disabler package from below.
• Flash the Full 8.0 Oreo Oxygen OS Beta OOS firmware package using TWRP.
• Don’t reboot to system just yet.
• Mount the system in TWRP. (Browse through the contents of the system folder via TWRP file manager.)
• Flash the downloaded zip file in TWRP.
• Reboot to TWRP again.
• That’s it. Reboot to System.

Though the official TWRP builds should work with the Oreo, it is recommended you use the patched ones below. At this moment only OnePlus 3T TWRP for Oreo is available.

Moreover, the Magisk v14.2 or v14.3 doesn’t seem to work. Hence, it is recommended to use the beta builds of SuperSU 2.82 SR5.
